Water extraction also involves a fairly simple method of CBD extraction in terms of equipment. This newly emerging process utilizes water vapor, ice, or water. This component is then combined with finely chopped trimmings from the hemp plant. Next, someone strains the mixture through a cloth or mesh fabric material. Producers repeat this process a few times, straining the water away from the plant waste and creating a clear solution of water and CBD oil. Once the oil extract settles, someone can easily drain off the water, resulting in a concentrated final product of high-CBD content hemp oil.
Because water extraction requires only simple materials and no machinery, it is an affordable and convenient method of extracting CBD oil. However, the major drawback is that it can become rather time consuming, making it less optimal for commercial use.
CO2 extraction makes for a more technical and precise way of extracting CBD and other cannabinoids from hemp. Currently the most widely used method of extraction, commercial production favors the CO2 process. In addition to producing consumable hemp products, scientists often use CO2 extraction to isolate and analyze specific cannabinoids for research purposes.
The process is quick, using pressurized carbon dioxide to separate targeted molecules form the hemp plant. This means that a CO2 extraction device can specifically extract CBD, or other cannabinoids, in isolated batches.
The efficiency and specificity of CO2 extraction makes it an optimal approach to sourcing CBD oil for CBD products. However, the specialized equipment required can be pricey.
Once scientists or manufacturers extract CBD oil using any of the above techniques, the next step is to create easy-to-use and effective CBD products. A final product might be as simple as a refined and enhanced CBD oil for oral consumption. Or, CBD oil might be used as the key ingredient in food edibles, pills, or topical solutions.
