CBD For Anxiety and Panic Attacks

With over a 25% increase in adult anxiety rates since 2020, panic attacks are unfortunately becoming a more common occurrence. Panic attacks are a common symptom of multiple anxiety disorders, as well as the key symptom of panic attack disorder. Often, people with anxiety of panic disorders will be prescribed prescription medications to manage their symptoms. Homeopathic supplements for these problems are also becoming increasingly popular. Some people who choose not to take prescription medications swear by using CBD for anxiety and panic attacks.

If you are interested in trying CBD for stress relief, or CBD for anxiety and panic attacks, it can be beneficial to do some initial research to find the best product for your needs. Keep reading to learn more about the best way to go about trying out CBD for these issues.

Identify Your Symptoms & Triggers

Many people who struggle with anxiety report that learning more about the symptoms and triggers of anxiety can help make it more manageable.

For example, you might never have considered that certain physical symptoms  may actually be linked to anxiety. This can include:

  • Stomach ache
  • Headache
  • Increased heart rate
  • Shortness of breath

If you are able to identify any key symptoms as linked to your anxiety, it can help you manage and treat your anxiety better. This could include making it easier to determine whether or not it is a good time to take a supplement like CBD for anxiety.

Identifying your triggers can also help you discern when to take CBD for stress relief and anxiety. This can include some self-evaluation of what situations usually make you the most anxious or cause panic attacks. Maybe you dislike crowded places, and often experience your anxiety triggered at large public events. Or maybe, you often find your anxiety heightened with the pressure of deadlines. You might find that a large upcoming work deadline is leading to an increase in panic attacks and stress.

Whatever your triggers are, identifying them can help you take CBD at the right times. If you anticipate an anxiety trigger, you can take CBD beforehand. This may help you feel more relaxed in a commonly anxiety-inducing situation.

How to Take CBD for Anxiety

If you’ve never used CBD before you might be looking for guidance on exactly how to use CBD oil for anxiety. Luckily, however, learning how to use CBD oil for anxiety is not difficult!  There are just a few simple steps you can take to make sure you are properly using CBD for anxiety.

Step 1 – Find the Right Product:

Not all CBD extract is created equal. Many CBD brands do not hold themselves to high enough standards of quality. This can lead to CBD that is not lab-tested, or CBD that does not actually do what it’s advertised to do. The best CBD products should be third-party tested, and include not just CBD isolate, but full or broad spectrum CBD in order to experience the “entourage effect”.

On top of the quality of the CBD extract, there are also many different types of CBD products to choose from. Popular CBD formats include CBD oil, topical CBD, edibles, and more.

For the purposes of using CBD for anxiety, CBD oil is the most common (and arguably most effective) type of CBD product.

Step 2 – Timing:

If you are using CBD oil for anxiety, you will also need to discern the right time to take the CBD. You have a couple of different options:

  • Taking CBD after the onset of anxiety/panic attack symptoms
  • Taking CBD as a preventative measure before the onset of anxiety.

The latter requires some anticipation of your anxiety/panic attack triggers, as we discussed previously. If you are taking CBD as a preventative measure, you can take it before you know you will be in a setting where you commonly experience anxiety (such as a party, an interview, etc.). Otherwise, you can also take CBD in the morning before starting your day. Some people take CBD on a regular basis as an approach to anxiety management.

Step 3 – Dosing:

Determine the proper dosing for your age and weight. Most CBD products will have dosing instructions on the bottle. In general, it is always helpful to “start small” and increase your doses over time. If you are new to CBD, you might try just 10 milligrams to start.
